Ircam - Cursus 1

Practical Training for Computer Music

Instruction in French

Fifteen composers under the age of 35 are selected to take part in this program where they can become familiar and gain a deeper understanding of the theoretical and compositional issues surrounding computer music.

This intense full-time program introduces the concepts of computer-assisted composition, signal processing, sound synthesis, and writing for interaction. Seminars by guest composers accompany technical courses taught from a compositional point of view. The year ends with the creation of a study for a solo instrument and electronics performed during a workshop with music professionals. Upon completion of the first year of the Cursus program, students will have acquired the foundation necessary to have a clear vision of the field, to continue his/her own training independently and assess the systems necessary to realize their artistic projects.

Admission requirements 

Applicants must have been born after January 1, 1977. They must provide proof of TEF results (French Evaluation Level Test) for whom French is not the native language. The minimum required TEF score is level 3 or higher/B1.

Your education and diplomas informations, a description of your professional experience, a description of your prizes and awards

-Your documents :

A photocopy of your legal ID, a proof of TEF results (French Evaluation Level Test) for whom French is not the native language). The minimum required TEF score is level 3 or higher/B1, a motivation letter, 1 or 2 recommendation letters

-Your medias : 

2 recent compositions, at least one of which uses electronics (scores and/or recordings)
