Writing music for dance, choreographing dance to music

The issue may sound old hat, but it remains a controversial, topical one: does one make a dance to a score, or does one write music for a dance piece?

_

The fifth edition of Prototype is destined to eight choreographers and four composers/sound artists who are curious about and eager to question this issue, in order to fuel and enrich their own choreographic or musical vocabulary.

Doctorat de muisque : recherche en composition / Music Doctorate in Research and Composition - Application Call 2017

The Collegium Musicae is calling for applications for a doctoral contract in the context of the Music Doctorate : Research and Composition (2017-2020).

This doctorate is organized in collaboration with the Paris-Sorbonne University, the Pierre et Marie Curie University (UMPC) and IRCAM.

Distinct from a doctorate in musicology, it is aimed at high-level composers, holders of a Master's degree (or of an equivalent diploma accompanied with significant experience in composition), proposing in particular projects integrating a technological dimension into the work of composition and wanting to pursue a training program both as composers and researchers.

First Academy Archipel Ose! for young composers

The exceptional nature of this composition academy, organised for the first time by Archipel and Ose ! Symphonic Orchestra, stems from the training offered to young composers (an orchestra of 65 musicians), rehearsal time granted to them (2 tutti, 2 partials max if needed, dress rehearsal and concert for each student - well beyond what they will encounter during the course of their symphonic career), and, above all, the quality and reputation of the supervision: Kaija Saariaho, super-star of Finnish music whose orchestral works and operas are performed on the most prestigious venues, and Daniel Kawka, founder-conductor of the Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain and Ose ! Symphonic Orchestra, a frequent guest at Archipel and experienced in the training of young artists.

The six interns selected on the basis of the application in February 2017, will write a short piece for orchestra that will be rehearsed then premiered in concert at the end of a 7-day Academy taking place successively in Lyon (March 20-22), Annemasse (March 23-25) and Geneva (March 26: public reading and concert).
