The Académie Voix Nouvelles (New Voices) is open to composers and performers wishing to hone their skills in the interpretation of the contemporary repertory.

For composers, it recreates the complete process of creation of a new work, in professional conditions: commission, composition, rehearsals, concert, under the supervision of internationally renowned tutors belonging to different aesthetics. It calls on the leading ensembles to rehearse and perform the works and to advise and interact with the composers.

The performers : this year, singers and string quartets, will benefit from the advice of the expert musicians of the guest ensembles in individual classes rehearsing chamber or solo repertory. They will make up an ensemble that will rehearse and perform in concert emblematic works from the contemporary literature as well as some of the work produced by the composers of the workshop.

In its duration and its exceptional working conditions, the academy constitutes a unique forum for exchanges between composers, performers and thinkers. Several specialists in the domains of management, musical production economics, author rights, the record industry, radio and journalism will also be invited.

MIVOS STRING QUARTET, string quartet coaching

The Mivos Quartet, “one of America’s most daring and ferocious new-music ensembles” (The Chicago Reader), is devoted to performing works of contemporary composers and presenting new music to diverse audiences. Since the quartet's beginnings in 2008 they have performed and closely collaborated with an ever-expanding group of international composers representing multiple aesthetics of contemporary classical composition. They have appeared on prestigious series such as the New York Phil Biennial, Wien Modern (Austria), the Darmstadt Internationalen Ferienkurse für Neue Musik (Germany), Asphalt Festival (Düsseldorf, Germany), HellHOT! New Music Festival (Hong Kong), Shanghai New Music Week (Shanghai, China), Edgefest (Ann Arbor, MI), Música de Agora na Bahia (Brazil), Aldeburgh Music (UK), and Lo Spririto della musica di Venezia (La Fenice Theater, Italy). Mivos is invested in commissioning and premiering new music for string quartet, striving to work closely with composers over extended periods of time; recently Mivos has collaborated on new works with Sam Pluta (Lucerne Festival Commission), Dan Blake (Jerome Commission), Mark Barden (Wien Modern Festival Commission), Richard Carrick (Fromm Commission), George Lewis (ECLAT Festival Commission), Eric Wubbels (CMA Commission), Kate Soper, Scott Wollschleger, Patrick Higgins (ZS), and poet/musician Saul Williams. Every year, the quartet additionally awards the Mivos/Kanter String Quartet Composition Prize, established to support the work of emerging and mid-career composers, and the I-Creation prize, a competition for composers of Chinese descent. Beyond expanding the string quartet repertoire, Mivos is also committed to working with guest artists, exploring multi-media projects involving live video and electronics, and performing improvised music. In addition to collaborations with the aforementioned Blake and Williams, this has led to performances with artists such as Ned Rothenberg, Chris Speed, Timucin Sahin, and Nate Wooley.

The following ensembles / teachers will also be present on the time of the academy, and it will be possible to work with them :

In 2002–2003 he was in the IRCAM ‘cursus’ for computer music and composition, taught by Philippe Leroux, Brian Ferneyhough, Tristan Murail, and Philippe Manoury. “Precise, sensitive and audacious”, are words used to describe Léo Warynski’s conducting. Open-minded and versatile, he directs all repertoires with the same enthusiasm, with a taste for the opera, the symphonic repertoire and the contemporary repertoire.
Léo Warynski trained as an orchestra conductor with François-Xavier Roth (CNSMD of Paris). He was rapidly sought out to work with different ensembles such as the Orchestre des Lauréats du CNSMDP, the Modern and Remix ensembles, the orchestra of the WDR of Cologne.
In 2016, he successfully directed the opera Mirida by Ahmed Essyad at the Opéra national du Rhin, made his debut leading the Ensemble Intercontemporain, and the following year headed the Orchestre de l’opéra de Rouen and the National symphonic orchestra of Colombia.
During the 2018 season, he is directing, among others, the orchestre de Normandie, the orchestre de l’opéra de Rouen, the creation of the opera Papillon Noir by Yann Robin at La Criée de Marcheille and of the opera Seven Stones by Ondrej Adamek at the festival d’Aix en Provence, and the French premiere of 200 Motels by Franck Zappa with the orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg at the festival Musica and at the Philharmonie de Paris.
Léo Warynski is the artistic director of the vocal ensemble Les Métaboles that he founded in 2010. Furthermore, in 2014, he was named music director of the ensemble Multilatérale, an instrumental ensemble dedicated to creation.

Created in 2010 by Léo Warynski, Les Métaboles brings together young professional singers specializing in the repertoire for a cappella choirs of the 20th and 21st centuries.
A versatile ensemble, Les Métaboles have originated many commissions and creations since their beginnings. Baroque music is also part of their repertoire and they excel in Haendel’s Dixit Dominus or Bach’s Motets.
Les Métaboles are regularly invited to take part in prestigious festivals in France and in Europe (festival Musica in Strasbourg, festival de Musique ancienne in Ribeauvillé, Musicales de Normandie in Rouen, Saison Musicale de Royaumont, In Sacris in Sofia).
Les Métaboles boast original productions, such as olfactory concerts, combining music with the work of the perfumer Quentin Bisch. Furthermore, the choir has already collaborated with the orchestra Les Siècles under the direction of François-Xavier Roth, the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.
The first record by the ensemble, “Mysterious Nativity”, released in 2014 under the Brilliant label, was unanimously acclaimed by critics. The second record “Une Nuit Américaine” released in November 2016, under the NoMad Music label, received equally unanimous recognition and established Les Métaboles among the best French choirs.
Thanks to the support of Mécénat Musical Société Générale since 2013, in just a few years, Les Métaboles have truly established themselves on the French musical scene.
The ensemble Les Métaboles receives support from the Fondation Orange, the Sacem and the Spedidam for all its activities.
Great patrons of the ensemble: Mécénat Musical Société Générale and the Caisse des Dépôts.
In 2018, Les Métaboles were awarded the Prix Liliane Bettancourt for choral singing, bestowed in partnership with the Académie des beaux-arts.
