Jerry Piipponen, a Finnish percussionist, can be most accurately described as a curious, expansive and extremely detailed musician and artist. An enthusiast both for chamber music and orchestral music, new and old, Piipponen has stayed continually involved in a wide variety of projects. Piipponen is one of the founding members of the contemporary music quartet Kaaos Ensemble, and the percussion quartet Awake Percussion. Piipponen studied at the Sibelius Academy from 2012 to 2018 under Antti Rislakki, Kazutaka Morita, Samuli Viitanen, Lassi Erkkilä, Pasi Suomalainen and Tim Ferchen. Upon finishing his bachelor's degree in 2015, Piipponen enrolled in an exchange program at the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied for one year under Christopher Lamb, She-e Wu and Duncan Patton. Piipponen finished his master's degree at the Sibelius Academy in 2018. Piipponen holds the position of sub-principal percussionist with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
