Hanna Kostamaa is a musician from Santa Monica, CA. Hanna's musical studies began at the age of 4 when she started taking piano lessons, inspired by her mother, who is also a pianist. Throughout elementary, middle, and high school, she continued to compete and perform in numerous regional competitions, festivals, and recitals. On the side, Hanna also began writing pop music and learning guitar. After her high school career at Harvard Westlake, where she performed twice with the Harvard Westlake Symphony Orchestra, she was admitted to Brown University, where she studied music (Theory/composition) and literary arts. While at Brown, Hanna had the opportunity to explore her musical endeavors, which most importantly included writing several compositions. She was given the opportunity to write for numerous musical ensembles, including for the student group Fermata/Brown Composer's Collective and the Boston Orchestra. In addition, her original composition for Pierrot Ensemble was played by the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP). She also composed a thesis where she scored a film in two styles to contrast the impact of arrangement on film music. While in the music department, she was the recipient of the Hope Chatterton prize and the Brand Musical Premium, and graduated with honors in 2016. After Brown, Hanna continued to pursue composition and had the opportunity to work on the score for the UP! film "Second Chance Christmas," which aired on November 5, 2017. She has been continuing to compose as well as teach piano and music theory privately.
