WU Yihao is a current PhD student in the Composition Department of China Conservatory of Music, Class of 2023, under the guidance of Prof. ZHU Lin. He is one of the first group selected by Global Music Education League – China Conservatory of Music joint education project, receiving a double Master’s degree in Composition and Erhu, studying with Prof. Joe Cutler, Dr. Ed Bennett, Dr Simon Hall of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Prof. CAO Dewei of China Conservatory of Music respectively; the first Composition – Erhu double-major Bachelor degree independently trained by China Conservatory of Music, respectively studying with the PhD supervisor, Prof. ZHU Lin of Composition department, and renowned Erhuist and educator, Prof. CAO Dewei, the director of the string teaching and research department in the Chinese Instruments Department. In 2023, he secured a place as the top scorer for the doctoral program in Composition at the China Conservatory of Music, continuing his studies with Prof. ZHU Lin.

WU Yihao's academic achievements include receiving the National Scholarship for Undergraduates in 2017-2018. In October 2018, he was recommended for direct entry into the China Conservatory of Music's Chinese Instruments Department to pursue a master's degree in Erhu performance due to his exceptional academic ranking within the department. He earned titles of Outstanding Graduate from Beijing and China Conservatory of Music in 2019 and 2022, and in 2019, he was selected for the first group of Global Music Education League program for joint study in the United Kingdom.

During his time at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, WU Yihao expanded his creative horizons by composing electronic music works such as Something About Erhu and Yangqin Box I & II. He also delved into exploring aspects of sound spectrum and space, resulting in compositions like Trace for piano trio, Samsara for Yangqin quartet, Sierra for Erhu and piano, and Splash Ink for solo viola. He also participated in multiple performances with the Huaxia National Traditional Orchestra and the Chinese Orchestra Academia.

In the realm of composition:
- His Erhu Concerto Other Than the Involution was selected for the 7th Young Composer Programme of National Centre for the Performing Arts in 2023.
- Yangqin Quartet Samsara was selected in the “Ancient Echo” – Silk Road Youth Music Work Collection held by Central Conservatory of Music in 2021;
- Piano Trio Trace won the fourth place in the UiTM Tunku Zain Piano Trio Competition in Malaysia in 2021;
- Piano Trio Rafting won the Excellence Award in the “Trio Clavino” Composition Competition organized by the China Conservatory of Music in 2018;

In the realm of Erhu performance:
- In 2021, he won the Silver Award in the Professional Youth A Group of the 2nd Dunhuang Cup Chinese National Chamber Music and Ensemble Competition;
- In 2021, he secured the Gold Award (First Place) in both the Professional Erhu Solo and Ensemble categories in the 5th Chengdu Golden Hibiscus Music Competition;
- In 2018, he claimed second place in the Professional Youth A Group and first place in the Professional Ensemble Group in the "Xiangli Cup" Art Exhibition and the First National Erhu Invitational Tournament in China, Hunan;
- In 2018, he received first place in both the Professional Youth and Ensemble categories of the "Qingle Cup" China-Japan International Erhu Competition;
- In 2017, he was part of the ensemble "Siheruyi," which reached the final exhibition of the "6th National Youth National Instruments Education and Teaching Achievement Display Activity" organized by Ministry of Culture of the PRC;
- In 2016, he secured the Silver Award in the Professional Group of the 1st Dongting Cup Erhu Competition;
- In 2016, he won the Bronze Award in the Professional Youth Group of the 3rd Dunhuang Cup National Youth Erhu Competition;
- In 2016, he received a Finalist Award in the Professional Group of the Shanghai Erhu Invitation Tournament and the First "Yanzi Cup" Sun Wenming Erhu Competition in Fengxian, Shanghai;
- In 2016, he claimed first place in the Professional Youth A Group of the 5th International Erhu Competition "Huayue Zhiyun";
- In 2015, he advanced to the quarter-finals of the "10th China Golden Bell Award" Erhu Competition;
- In 2015, he received an Outstanding Award in the "Guoyin Cup" Liu Tianhua Erhu Composition Competition;
- In 2012, he earned an Encouragement Award in the Youth Group of the 4th Wenhua Academy of Arts Youth String Instrument Competition;
- In 2010, he secured an Excellence Award in the Youth Group of the 1st Dunhuang Cup National Youth Erhu Competition.

These demonstrate his dedication to both composition and Erhu performance, and his commitment to pushing the boundaries of his artistic endeavors.
