For centuries the Gargoyles of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris have been a point of great interest and wonderment. During a recent artist residency in Paris I decided to write a musical portrait about them. After visiting the church many times I realized that during the day they appear as statues warding off evil spirits and serving as rain spouts but at night when the lights go off at Notre Dame, they come to life and run all over the church dancing, screaming and singing. This wild celebration lasts until daybreak and with the signal of the church bells gargoyles once again become statuary
