Description:

The academy offers an intensive and focused four-day session, designed to deepen the understanding of current aesthetic discourses and the latest artistic demands in the field of contemporary music and performance. The academy aims to explore learning processes, creation and composition methods, and the direct, live interaction between composers and interpreters.

Courses will be taught in English and German.

The academy is designed for students of various levels and for professional musicians with interest in contemporary classical music.
Already existing chamber ensemble formations are welcome to enroll, however each member should register separately.

Course Overview

● Coaching sessions
-Individual coaching sessions (45 minutes) for both composition and interpretation applicants -Chamber sessions: a selection of chamber/ensemble pieces will be suggested and prepared during allocated group sessions. Ensemble pieces by the composition tutors and composer participants will also be learned (if applicable, based on instrumentation available).

● Group workshops on: Rhythm (polyrhythm, strategies for realization, irrational meter, metric modulations); Microtones and Perception; Notation; Prepared Instruments; Playing Techniques; Vocalization; Improvisation.

● Presentations during the Academy: Both composition and interpretation tutors will present their practice, through lectures and performance sessions. Interpretation participants will also have the opportunity to present individual solo works and to share with one another the challenges they encountered with the work and the strategies they took to prepare it. Composer participants may present their already existing compositions and/or their artistic practice.
