Maria Dominguez is a versatile and imaginative performer of the 20th Century and Contemporary Music. She has been described as “a captivating performer, possessing great depth and exquisite sensitivity”. She was born in 1991 in Ourense, Spain. She began her studies of piano at the age of eight at the Professional Music Conservatory of her city, where she graduated in 2009. She also studied classical singing and attended several courses on vocal technique and repertoire. She continued her studies in the Professional Music Conservatory of La Coruña, improving her style with Ricardo Blanco as a teacher. She studied with some of the most important international pianists, such as: Dimitri Bashkirov Josep Colom, Maria Jesus Crespo, Michel Lukas, Kurt Seibert, Peter Bithell, Graham Jackson, Ivan Klansky… She also attended prestigious courses such as “Peter de Festival Grote“ (Groningen), where she received the first prize. She also participated in the course of contemporary piano “Zeitgenossische fur Akademie” (Luzern, Switzerland). Maria performed as a soloist in diverse concerts around Spain, Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Italy and Holland. She recently went on tour in Europe with BKM Symphonic Orchestra (with students of the Conservatorium of Brussels, Cologne and Maastricht) and she participated with the National Youth Orchestra of Netherlands (NJO) conducted by Antony Hermus in the Summer Festival and Tour 2016 where she successfully played piano, celesta and synthesizer in different concerts: Kontzerhaus Berlín (Germany), Alto Adige Festival Toblach (Italy), Theater Orpheus Apeldoorn (The Netherlands) and in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. But above all, Maria feels a strong contact with new contemporary music, That’s why she usually works with new composers. She recorded in studio pieces from contemporary music composers such as Gubaidulina, Heinz Holliger, Jasper Vanpaemel and Einojuhani Rautaavara. And this year she passed to the last round in the Asko Schoemberg audition. Furthermore, she is developing her owns projects called Simbiose, a piano concert with video art. This recital conveys a wide range of tendencies within the contemporary music scene and explores the use of electronic music. It includes an heterogeneous mix of composers coming from Spain, Holand, France, United States or Finland. With this project she played in Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany and Portugal. And the project called CONTENCO, a newly-formed musical trio comprised by pianist Maria Dominguez Perez, percussionist Pablo Paz Lopez and flamenco dancer Federico Ordoñez, which connects two different languages and traditions, both flamenco and contemporary music, in order to create new languages and new forms of artistic expression. In 2017 she finished the master program at Maastricht Conservatory with the pianist Katia Veekmans. Also, she did two years of specialization in “Contemporary Music through non Western techniques” at Conservatorium of Amsterdam. Currently, she is studing the Advance Master in Contemporary Music with Ictus Ensemble in Brussels. She has been selected for three foundations to be supported: Via Zuid Talenmakelaar, Schiting Cultural Entrepreneurchip of Maastricht and the Foundation of Conservatorium of Maastricht.
