Federico Placidi, born in 1968, is a composer and sound artist from Rome, Italy. His education includes graduating in Double Bass from the Conservatorio di S.Cecilia and studying Composition and Electronic Music at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Wien.

In the late 90s, Federico co-founded the chamber ensemble "Quadrivium", performing alongside composer Edoardo Carlo Natoli. He has worked as a Sound Designer for new media, collaborating with post-production studios and showcasing expertise in Max/MSP and Symbolic Sound’s Kyma sound design environment.

Federico’s passion lies in electroacoustic music and composition, with a focus on live interaction between acoustic instruments and electronic devices. He has participated in masterclasses across Europe, including at the Centre de Création Musicale Iannis Xenakis in Paris, learning from teachers such as Agostino Di Scipio, Trevor Wishart, and Curtis Roads.

As a co-founder of the U.S.O. Project, Federico has contributed to several multimedia works, exploring the realms of electroacoustic music. He's been visiting professor at the Centre de Création Musicale Iannis Xenakis in Paris and has curated festivals such as Sonic Screens in Milan.

Federico’s compositional practice extends to commissioned pieces for various ensembles and soloists, incorporating cybernetic procedures and neural network algorithms in his recent works. Among his published works are "InHarmoniCity", "Sonic Screens", "EX-NIHILO" and “Lucid” with sound artist Thoranna Bjornsdottir.

He has performed live extensively, both in Italy and abroad, and collaborating with renowned international artists.

His career highlights include being a composer in residence at EMS (Elektronmusik Studion) in Stockholm and curating the Acousmatic Music Festival "De Natura Sonorum" in Rome, where he also manages sound projection in ambisonic format.

Federico works as a professor of Electronic Music at the Saint Louis College of Music in Rome.
