Samuel Peruzzolo Vieira is composer, percussionist, teacher and researcher. He holds a PhD in composition from the University of Aveiro (PT) and masters in percussion (performance) by Texas A&M University-Commerce (USA). Currently, he teaches percussion at Conservatorio de Música da Jobra and composition at the Piaget Institute - Viseu. Samuel is an integrated researcher at the INET-md/University of Aveiro, having contributed to groups such as POST-IP, Performa, Research “Hands on” and IMPAR. As a teacher, he maintains for almost ten years a professional activity in several institutions of music education in Portugal. In addition to teaching, Samuel still has a prolific career as a composer, working with groups such as Abstrai Ensemble, Vertixe Sonora Ensemble, CAn-Duo, Sextante Group, PIAP Group, Minho University Percussion Group, Texas A&M University Percussion Studio, and many solo artists. His works were performed in various countries in America and Europe. In 2010, Samuel earned the Funarte Prize of Classical Composition, and in 2011 received the first prize in the Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest-USA.
