Wesley Wolhuter - Biography

Art musician, composer, musical director and teacher Wesley Wolhuter studied composition with Prof. Peter Klatzow, Dr. Martin Watt and Prof. Hendrik Hofmeyr, piano with Dr. Franklin Larey, cello with Marian Lewin and conducting with Alex Fokkens at the University of Cape Town. As an orchestral musician Wesley has played in the pit for operas - Don Giovanni and Cosi Fan Tutte and Musicals - Grease 2006 and West Side Story 2007 and many symphony concerts with various South African orchestras. In 2009 Wesley’s Cello Concerto in E minor received its world premiere performance by the JPO Academy Orchestra in collaboration with The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra with cellist Wessel Beukes as soloist under the baton of Sonja Bass. More recently Wesley performed in a duelling cellos act for Madame Zingara 2015. In 2016 he composed and performed the score to a physical theatre / dance piece titled WITH/HOLD by Magdalena De Beer at The Grahamstown National Arts Festival and gave a solo piano recital of his own music in Berlin. In 2017 Wesley created, directed and performed in a collaborative spoken word opera of performing and visual arts titled COLOVR and The Prophet at The Galloway Theatre with his COLOVR Ensemble, spoken word artist Vanessa Lipari and photographer Matthew Bernstein. Wesley was the musical director of the Masque Theatre Players’ production of Grease in 2016 and Fame the Musical in 2017. From 2018 - 2020 Wesley was appointed as the musical director of the Rainbow Academy School of Performing Arts and Business, during this tenure he was musical director and conductor on productions: Sarafina The Musical at the Artscape Arena theatre - 2019 , Chicago the Musical at The President Hotel, Cape Town - 2019 , Dreamgirls the Musical at the Artscape Arena Theatre - 2020 . 

Wesley Wolhuter is currently the CEO and Musical/Artistic Director of Paradise Road Entertainment Studio Pty. Ltd.
