Caucasus was inspired by the shape of the stone of the east facade of Gaudi's Sagrada Familia and its parallelism with the shape of the Caucasus Mountains. It departs from the Hurrian hymn to Nikkal (ca. 1400 b. C.) discovered in Ugarit and transcribed by Anne Kilmer (1974). Caucasus describes the discovery of fractions and their application to music. The melodic contour of the piece is built using the Armenian infinite scale.
